Activities/Thematic Focus

  • Fundamental issues relating to habitat protection and habitat management, including ongoing development of legislation, programmes on habitat and landscape conservation and programmes on the habitat network
  • Analysing the status and endangerment of and documenting habitat types, habitat complexes and landscapes (threat situation and sources of threats; compiling and updating the Red List of endangered habitats and habitat complexes)
  • Ongoing development of criteria, strategies and procedures for the protection and development of habitats and habitat complexes and for success monitoring in habitat protection activities
  • Analysing and assessing transregional and international ecological links between habitats, habitat complexes and landscapes as a basis for planning habitat networking, including for the national and European Green Belt (the former Iron Curtain border)
  • Ongoing development of strategies for landscape conservation and landscape development; landscape development models (including safeguarding natural development, wilderness areas, conservation of cultural landscapes and activities relating to the European Landscape Convention)
