The German Federal Nature Conservation Agency (BfN)

is Germany’s central scientific authority for both national and international nature conservation. The Agency reports to the German Environment Ministry (BMU) and has key enforcement functions under international species conservation agreements, marine conservation law, the Antarctic Treaty and the German Genetic Engineering Act.
