Post-Mining Landscapes Network
Building on the publication "Erhaltung und Sicherung von Naturschutzflächen in Bergbaufolgelandschaften -Handbuch zum Flächenerwerb und -management im Lausitzer und Mitteldeutschen Braunkohlerevier" (Preserving and Safeguarding Nature Conservation Areas in Post-Mining Landscapes: Guide to Site Acquisition and Management in the Lignite Mining Districts of the Lausitz and Central Regions of Germany)" 1), a follow-on project was initiated to take up follow-on issues and present the experience gathered so far.
This work was based on discussions held between nature conservation experts and state (Länder) agencies. For this purpose, a web-based portal 
Bergbaufolgelandschaften (Post-Mining Landscapes), in German was created as part of a research and development project to create the Netzwerk Bergbaufolgelandschaft (Post-Mining Landscapes Network). The portal provides interested parties with a range of useful information.
A series of maps show the current status of nature conservation areas in post-mining landscapes in the eastern German Länder of Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony:
